3D Virtual Learning Environment (3DVLE)

The 3D virtual learning environment developed for this project is based on the South African National Curriculum Standards. The platform incorporates numeracy, literacy, social sciences, life skills and economic management skills within an integrated, problem solving environment.

The content has been developed in collaboration with the Departments of Education in Gauteng and Limpopo Provinces, school principals and teachers. Problem solving activities have been designed in such a way that teachers can continue to develop the platform as authors and the learning activities complement and extend curriculum activities undertaken in the classroom.

Children can rent their own virtual land and house in the virtual world where they can
furnish their house and grow virtual vegetables to sell to the market

Children can visit the market and shops to buy food and learn how to manage their virtual money

Children learn how to manage their virtual bank account through quizzes and by interacting with the  ATM to receive a bank statement detailing their income and expenditure in the virtual world

Children learn about healthy food choices and managing their money in the virtual supermarket

Children learn about hygiene, nutrition and healthy living by interacting in the virtual health clinic


Safari trail where children learn about animals and can create thier own animals using primitive objects

Children can go on safari trails in the 3D virtual world where they solve numeracy and literacy
problems, answer quizzes about science and create their own animals in an exploratory environment


Children can fly to the moon in a virtual rocket

Children can also travel to the moon in a virtual rocket and then enter a planetarium
to learn about the solar system


Solar system activities within the virtual planetarium

Children can fly to the moon to learn about the solar system in the 3D virtual world


Unerwater in the 3D virtual world

Children can travel underwater and answer quizzes about marine life


Interactive quiz boards throughout the 3D virtual world

Each adventure trail includes interactive boards providing children with the opportunity
to solve numeracy and literacy problems in a fun like environment
